Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES)

The VT-WFU Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) is the Virginia Tech - Wake Forest University BMES chapter that was founded to help bridge the gap between the two campuses and foster communication and collaboration among various research groups.The group’s mission is to encourage the development, dissemination, integration, and utilization of knowledge in biomedical engineering, as well as enhance interaction within the scientific community.

The VT-WF chapter offers unique ways for students to become involved in outreach projects, research collaborations, and social events with other biomedical engineering students, faculty, staff, and industry. BMES members are involved in many service and outreach projects within the local community participate annually in the BMES Annual Meeting. They also host an annual Symposium for graduate students to present their research.

Graduate Engineering Mechanics Society (GEMS)

The Graduate Engineering Mechanics Society (GEMS) aims to better the experience of engineering mechanics graduate students through three main areas: professional development, social interaction, and community outreach.

GEMS’ professional development branch provides networking events and programming seminars for free, among other professional opportunities. The society’s social branch puts on events such as game nights and happy hours at local bars and restaurants. The outreach branch focuses on community education and undergraduate relations. GEMS is student led and welcomes new members at any time.
